Light oil vs heavy oil

It depends entirely on the diagenesis and oil formation process. there are geographic regions with heavy (high viscosity) and light oils withing the same country

8 May 2014 "Crude oils that are light (higher degrees of API gravity, or lower density) and sweet (low sulfur content) are usually priced higher than heavy, sour  oil drive demand for heavy crude, narrowing the price spread between Saudi's Arab Light and Arab Heavy crude prices to Asia. Arab Light vs Arab Heavy. Statoil ranks as the world's third largest net seller of crude oil with more than two million barrels of crude and condensate (light oil) traded every day. 37.60% vs Avg. Open:  20 Sep 2017 Since last winter, the price gap between light crude oil and heavy crude — otherwise known as the light-heavy differential — has narrowed  Heating oil is a mainly petroleum-based fuel for use in furnaces, central heating systems, and industrial furnaces. There are essentially two different types of

Since last winter, the price gap between light crude oil and heavy crude — otherwise known as the light-heavy differential — has narrowed considerably. In February, the price difference between Louisiana Light Sweet crude (LLS) and heavy Maya crude on the Gulf Coast was almost $10/bbl, providing an advantage to refiners who have invested in cokers and other equipment that allows them to run a heavier crude slate. But since June Maya has on average sold for only about $5/bbl less than LLS

Heavy crude oil (or extra heavy crude oil) is highly-viscous oil that cannot easily flow to production wells under normal reservoir conditions. It is referred to as "heavy" because its density or specific gravity is higher than that of light crude oil. Light crude oils have an API of greater than 31.1 degrees; medium oils have an API of between 22.3 and 31.1 degrees; heavy crude has an API of fewer than 22.3 degrees, and extra heavy has an API less than 10.0 degrees. The larger the number of degrees, the lighter a crude oil. As a rule of thumb, a light crude would typically have an API of more than 31.1, a medium crude’s API would fall between 22.3 and 31.1, a heavy crude will have an API below 22.3, and any measurement less than 10 is classified as extra-heavy (the oil would sink, rather than float in water). "A layer of oil 100-plus units would be considered "Heavy oil" and anything less then 50 units probably would be "Light oil". Now in from other source's Oil, Medium and Dry is looked at in terms of length. In the book "Revolutions 2" they define it this way, Oil (long oil) were lanes oiled 35 to 45 feet. Light oil is preferable to heavy oil because a higher percentage of the hydrocarbons are converted into things like gasoline. That’s why light oil trades at a premium to heavy oil. The oil that comes out of basins like the Permian and Eagle Ford has an API gravity of approximately 38-42. The oil still needs to flow from the bottom to the head, which is why a thinner oil at startup is best and the days of 10W are dead. 5W or 0W ONLY now. Group V oils like Redline are said to somewhat "stick" to the parts better, and its something id consider if i ever become ok with getting my oil in the mail.

Natural bitumen is oil having a viscosity greater than 10,000 cP.” “Natural bitumen (often called tar sands or oil sands) and heavy oil differ from light oils by their

13 May 2010 [1] Crude oil is called “liquid petroleum” as it comes out of the ground. Light crude oil is a complex mixture containing thousands of different  Light vs Heavy Crude Oil Light Crude oil is liquid petroleum that has low density and that flows freely at room temperature. It has low viscosity, low specific gravity and high API gravity due to the presence of a high proportion of light hydrocarbon fractions. It generally has a low wax content as well. The ideal oil is light and sweet with a low TAN count, while the harder to process oil is heavy and sour with a high TAN count. Benchmark Crude Oils: OPEC, WTI, and Brent There are over one hundred different crude oils traded on the market today. "Light" Crude vs. "Heavy" Crude Crude's classification as either “light” or “heavy” depends on the oil’s relative density, based on the American Petroleum Institute (API) Gravity. This measurement reflects how light or heavy a crude oil is compared to water.

light crude oil has less specific gravity, less viscosity while heavy crude oil has more specific gravity & viscosity.

16 Jan 2020 It is a sweet light crude oil but slightly heavier than West Texas Intermediate. In this context, sweet refers to a low sulfur content, and light refers  20 Feb 2019 Globally, most refineries process light sweet crude into gasoline, jet fuel, diesel and other fuels and products. The term “Heavy Oil” is a reference to the high density. (API Gravity) of those oils. The measurement that we care most about today is viscosity since that is the

26 Aug 2019 ***The first factor you need to know about is “heavy” vs. “light” oil. In preview, light oil is worth more than heavy oil. Here's why… The American  16 Jul 2019 Crude oil is a fossil fuel, which means it is formed from dead organisms that are buried under intense heat and pressure. But what types of  23 Aug 2019 Relatively light crude oil with an API gravity from 40 to 50 degrees accounted for most Texas production in 2018, at 56%. To combat soot and to make oil drain intervals longer (oil drain intervals may reach up to 100 000 miles or 160 000 kms for heavy duty trucks, operated under optimal circumstances) the heavy-duty motor oils contain larger amounts of detergent and dispersant additives than passenger car motor oils do. Light, sweet crudes have a higher proportion of the light molecules used to make premium fuels like gasoline, naphtha, and – to some extent – diesel. Heavy crudes have a higher proportion of molecules that can only be used to make diesel fuel or residual fuels oils that are sold at a discount to ships or power producers. The density of the heavy oil in the Shanjiasi field is up to 0.9719 g/cm 3, and the dynamic viscosity of this heavy oil reaches hundreds to thousands of mPa·s at 50 °C. Even as the temperature has been increased to 80 °C or 100 °C, their dynamic viscosity is still as high as dozens of mPa·s. Light oil is a liquid converted from crude oil (in a oil refinery) or heavy oil (in a chemical plant ). Light oil can be converted to petroleum gas, or used to create solid fuel and rocket fuel .
