How to read market depth charts

A depth chart for a bid/ask market has two lines, one for BIDs (BUY orders) and one for ASKs (SELL orders). GDAX live chart has an Green line for BIDs (BUY orders), a Red line for ASKs (SELL orders). Again, a line on a chart is simply made up by plotting dots. Each dot on a depth chart line represents how much can be traded at that point.

This indicator sums up all existing orders sorted by ascending (sell orders) or descending (buy orders) prices. It then displays the consolidated order values on a stacked area chart (the market depth chart). If you refer to the market depth below the chart you can tell where the majority of buyers are waiting for the price to drop. Between $4.05 and $4.00 it is expected to be filled with buyers. The most enthusiastic buyers will always position themselves above the big players.
